A Letter to Joe the Plumber from Charles Chortlelywell

As originally seen on BccList.com here, I still think the Obama campaign should put together a commercial of 15 or so plumbers named Joe stating they support Barack Obama for president.  Regardless, here’s an open letter to Joe the Plumber from Charles Chortlelywell – chief accountant of Flush Plumbers United…

Dear Joe:

I am Charles R. Chortlelywell, chief accountant of Flush Plumbers United – or Change Man Charlie as I’m known around the office.

We are a national organization dedicated to the interests of plumbers earning more than a quarter million dollars a year. As you know, the salary of your average Joe in the industry is approximately $37,500, so you are clearly someone special.

We would like to learn more about you in order to help you, even if Barack Obama won’t. So would you mind answering a few questions:

Does this company you are planning actually make $250-280 thousand a year in profits or is that just its total revenue? If the latter then you don’t have to worry about Obama’s tax bill at all. If it’s the former, then your additional taxes each year will range between zero and $900. Since you’ll be making five to seven times as much as your average Joe in the trade you can probably handle it.

On the other hand, perhaps not.  A Toledo Blade story about you notes that “In December, 2007, the Ohio Department of Taxation placed a lien against him because $1,183 in personal property taxes had not been paid, but there has been no action in the case since it was filed.” Is part of your concern that since you already owe so much to the socialist state of Ohio and don’t want to compound the problem? If so, perhaps you shouldn’t be going around buying businesses at all.

Since court records from your divorce also show you only made $40,000 in 2006, where are you going to get the money for this deal? Let’s say you buy it for a million bucks or so. I just checked and found where you could get such a loan, but it would cost you over $60,000 a year in interest alone and you’d have to pay it off in seven years. I suggest you worry about that more than Obama’s tax increase.

How many new employees do you plan to hire? If you just hire one you’ll get a $3000 tax credit and that dangerous fellow Obama will actually end up adding $2100-3000 to your profits.

Where are the headquarters of the company you currently work for and would like to buy? The Toledo Blade couldn’t come up with a good answer to this question: “Mr. Wurzelbacher told reporters that he worked for Newell Plumbing & Heating Co., a small local firm whose business addresses flow back to several residential homes, including one on Talmadge Road in Ottawa Hills”

When do you actually plan to get a plumbers’ license? It would help to add validity to your nickname. I was a bit bothered by the part of the Blade story that read: “According to Lucas County Building Inspection records, A. W. Newell Corp. does maintain a state plumbing license, and one with the City of Toledo, but would not be allowed to work in Lucas County outside of Toledo without a county license. Mr. Wurzelbacher said he works under Al Newell’s license, but according to Ohio building regulations, he must maintain his own license to do plumbing work. He is also not registered to operate as a plumber in Ohio, which means he’s not a plumber. Mr. Wurzelbacher said he was hired by Mr. Newell six years ago and that the possibility of him eventually buying the company was discussed during his job interview. He said it’s his understanding he can work under Mr. Newell’s license as long as the licensed contractor works on the same site. Mr. Wurzelbacher said he is working on taking the Ohio plumbing contractors’ license test.”

If we are to invite you to join our board we might also need some help in answering issues such as raised by Tom Joseph, business manager for Local 50 of the United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters, and Service Mechanics, who says you didn’t undergo any apprenticeship training.  Reported the Blade: “‘When you have guys going out there with no training whatsoever, it’s a little disreputable to start with,’ Mr. Joseph said. ‘We’re the real Joe the Plumber.’ Mr. Joseph said Mr. Wulzerbacher could only legally work in the townships, but not in any municipality in Lucas County or elsewhere in the country. ‘This individual has got no schooling, no licenses, he’s never been to a training program, union or non-union, in the United States of America,’ Mr. Joseph said.”

While I realize Plumber Joseph may merely be feeling bitter being upstaged by Plumber Joe, as we say in the trade about faucets, this one needs a better spin on it.

Thanks for help. Your attention to this matter – as well as to the fact that the candidate whom you support has eight homes, 13 cars and wears $500 loafers – will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely yours,

Charles R. Chortlelywell

Conor, thank you.

Obama’s FORGOTTEN 8 Years as Illinois State Legislator – UPDATE

As originally seen on BccList.com here, I bashed the gop for downplaying Obama’s 8 years – yes, 8 years – as state legislator in Illinois.

Let’s take a look at what Obama accomplished as a state legislator in Illinois over his 8 year run.  The following seem to be pretty worthwhile and bipartisan initiatives…

Once elected in 1996, Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws. He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare. In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan’s payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures.

In January 2003, Obama became chairman of the Illinois Senate’s Health and Human Services Committee when Democrats, after a decade in the minority, regained a majority. He sponsored and led unanimous, bipartisan passage of legislation to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they detained and legislation making Illinois the first state to mandate videotaping of homicide interrogations. During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, police representatives credited Obama for his active engagement with police organizations in enacting death penalty reforms.

It’s not like Obama was a PTA board member and then rolled over into mayor of a small town in Alaska.  Yes, she will be president within the next 4 years if their lame duck ticket somehow (however unlikely) pulls off a miracle.

Al Jazeera Interview with Local Ohio Residents – Misconceptions of Obama Fuel Republican Campaign – These People are Fcking CRAZY!

I can see the comments now.  No, Al Jazeera is not a violent Islamic terrorist group.  Rather, they are a media outlet in the middle east like CNN is here in the US.

This is worse than the recent videos of insane mccain/palin supporters that have been posted on YouTube over the past few weeks.  Oh my god…

One things for sure – videos like this will turn independents off in a heartbeat.

Jason, thank you!

Joe the Plumber – Don’t Buy the Business!!!

As originally seen on BccList.com here, I am pleading that Joe not buy the business as discussed during last night’s debate. I don’t think I’ve ever quoted my own blog to the following extent.  Awesome.  Here we go…

“Per zillow.com, Joe the Plumber’s house is worth $122,500. Wouldn’t buying a business with such little equity possibly cause financial harm to Joe? Joe is exactly the person that the republicans have been blaming this recent financial turmoil on – average citizens overextending themselves with loans. Not a smart idea Joe.  Don’t buy the business!!!”

The “Joe the Plumber” Effect?

As seen originally on BccList.com here, Joe doesn’t understand the issues that effect him.  He straight up doesn’t get it.

But, due to the media induced misconception that Joe would benefit from a senile mccain presidency, I assume the the national polls won’t reflect how much Obama kicked mccain’s ass last night.  In fact, mccain may shockingly get a bounce in Ohio.  It doesn’t matter – voter registration has ended, early voting has begun, and the economy isn’t getting any better between now and November 4th.

You know what’s going to suck major dck over the next few weeks?  Hearing palin say – about 500 times – “Joe the Plumber” in that annoying ass voice.

P.S.  Obama needs to immediately run an ad where 15+ plumbers named Joe say why they support the Obama/Biden ticket.  We can only hope.

Update 1: Per Politico – actually, per Ben Smith at Politico but he’s annoying – Joe the Plumber apparently isn’t registered to vote. I guess that’s why he isn’t saying publicly who he plans on voting for. Conor, thank you.

Update 2: Ben Smith is such a waste of space.  Unless Joe isn’t somehow registered to vote in the 2008 General Election though he voted republican in the primary earlier this year, he is registered to vote at his current address of 355 Shrewsbury St. Holland, OH 43528.

Joe’s Voting History: 2008 PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY
2007 NOV GENERAL
2006 NOV GENERAL
2005 FEB SPECIAL
2004 GEN PRESIDENTIAL
2002 NOV GENERAL

Update 3: Per zillow.com, Joe the Plumber’s house is worth $122,500. Wouldn’t buying a business with such little equity possibly cause financial harm to Joe? Joe is exactly the person that the republicans have been blaming this recent financial turmoil on – average citizens overextending themselves with loans. Not a smart idea Joe.  Don’t buy the business!!!

mccain and Obama Debate #3 Recap – Hofstra University

I guess this blog entry was submitted to StumbleUpon as I’m getting a ton of traffic from there. Welcome StumbleUpon users – apparently you’re doper than Digg users! Without further ado…

There were 3 winners of tonight’s debate – Obama, Bob Schieffer, and Joe the Plumber. Joe the Plumber is getting so much attention/ass right now it’s sick.

As originally seen on BccList.com here and here, neither candidate impressed me during debates 1 and 2. Obama absolutely murdered mccain in this final debate. The debate poll results will undoubtedly be a landslide in Obama’s favor.

The following are some of the notes I took – yes, on the iPhone y’all – during the debate. I’ve included quotes from the transcript to help highlight my notes.

Note Number 1: mccain was very grumpy old man like, blinking way too much, not wearing a flag lapel pin, and something is seriously wrong with his left eye. He needs to stop campaigning and start enjoying life because I think his left eye condition could be a warning sign of a possible stroke. I’m not joking…he’s falling apart at the seams.

Note Number 2: Does mccain realize that autism is not the same thing as Down Syndrome? palin’s son has Down Syndrome. mccain kept saying how palin understands those that have children with autism. This happened AT LEAST twice…

MCCAIN: “And, by the way, she also understands special-needs families. She understands that autism is on the rise, that we’ve got to find out what’s causing it, and we’ve got to reach out to these families, and help them, and give them the help they need as they raise these very special needs children.

She understands that better than almost any American that I know. I’m proud of her.”

and…

MCCAIN: “And I just said to you earlier, town hall meeting after town hall meeting, parents come with kids, children — precious children who have autism. Sarah Palin knows about that better than most. And we’ll find and we’ll spend the money, research, to find the cause of autism. And we’ll care for these young children.”

Note Number 3: mccain completely lost anything he had going for him tonight when he said Obama started his political career in Ayers’ living room. Obama corrected him. From that point on, mccain completely collapsed. It was like seeing a really old turtle crawl inside his shell.

MCCAIN: “Well, again, while you were on the board of the Woods Foundation, you and Mr. Ayers, together, you sent $230,000 to ACORN. So — and you launched your political campaign in Mr. Ayers’ living room.”

OBAMA: “That’s absolutely not true.”

MCCAIN: “And the facts are facts and records are records.”

OBAMA: “And that’s not the facts.”

MCCAIN: “And it’s not the fact…”

Note Number 4: mccain’s gimmick of late is mentioning he would freeze government spending across the board. He made the mistake of saying this early in the debate tonight. About 15 minutes after mentioning the lame ass freeze, mccain said he would support funding for research into conditions such as autism. Obama’s highlight tonight came when he indicated funding research for those with autism would require that there not be an across the board spending freeze in place. Ouch. Pwned!

OBAMA: “I do want to just point out that autism, for example, or other special needs will require some additional funding, if we’re going to get serious in terms of research. That is something that every family that advocates on behalf of disabled children talk about.

And if we have an across-the-board spending freeze, we’re not going to be able to do it. That’s an example of, I think, the kind of use of the scalpel that we want to make sure that we’re funding some of those programs.”

Note Number 5: Obama was officially on cruise control when he was able to show the realest laugh I’ve ever seen a politician offer on camera. I hope there’s a clip of Obama cracking up on YouTube tomorrow during this portion of the debate. The funny moment came after mccain erratically was trying to close out an unrelated point late in the debate. He said Obama does not believe in fair trade and he wants to tax you more. This had nothing to do – at the time – with anything that was being discussed. Obama controlled the debate from this point forward though mccain was already falling apart after the failed Ayers’ living room attack.

Here’s what we got so far – best to worst debate performances during the general election…

  1. Obama #3
  2. Biden
  3. Obama #1
  4. Obama #2
  5. mccain #2
  6. mccain #1
  7. mccain #3
  8. palin

Update 1: After the debate I took a bath (that’s right) and started blogging. So, I’m slightly behind on my DVR. I just caught the results. As predicted above, Obama won tonight by a landslide. Ball game!

Update 2: Joe the plumber is reportedly still a mccain supporter after the debate. He must not a) have watched the debate b) understand the reasons behind the economic issues he’s facing (I assume one of them is gas/commodity prices) c) remember the last 8 years and d) belong to a union. Joe, you blow.

Update 3: It all makes sense now. Joe is not in the union and does not having a plumbing license. If you watch this morning’s interview outside of his house, he’s proud that the US helped “liberate” Iraq. He’s pissed that he has to pay off all the debt from the recent bailout. He apparently doesn’t realize that the $650 billion war got us into the most recent $700 billion worth of debt as seen orginally on BccList.com here.

VIDEO: Matt Stairs Quote: “…and you’re getting your ass hammered by guys, there’s no better feeling than to have that done.”

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/home_top_left_story/20081014_Just_A_Win_Away.html

“Not that I don’t feel like I’m part of the team, but when you get that nice celebration coming in the dugout and you’re getting your ass hammered by guys, there’s no better feeling than to have that done.”

I could imagine a few better feelings but who am I to judge?

Andy and Conor, thank you.

Picture Update: John, thank you…

bush’s New Lie: “Government’s Role Will be Limited and Temporary”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/14/AR2008101400738.html?hpid=topnews

“The government’s role will be limited and temporary,” Bush said from the Rose Garden. “These measures are not intended to take over the free market, but to preserve it.”

Ha!  Who the fck does he think he’s kidding?  The lie starts at the 2:33 mark…

Still crazy after all these years…

Gavin, thank you.

palin Thinks She Was Cleared of Legal Wrongdoing and Any Kind of Unethical Activity – Interview with Alaskan Media

http://community.adn.com/adn/node/132625

Apparently, palin can’t read or doesn’t understand what it means to be ethical.  From the report…

“Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda.”

Moreover, apparently she has amnesia and has forgotten the last few weeks like when she insinuated Obama was a terrorist.  From the interview (above link) over the weekend with Alaskan media…

“But no, in John McCain’s mission here, in taking the high road, as you’re going to see too with a lot of unfair shots he has taken in this campaign with some of his opponents’ supporters, McCain and I taking the high road, being positive.”

She is easily the craziest republican I have ever seen and that’s saying A LOT!
