RIP Trayvon Martin

man that is soo sad !
I have enjoyed reading your blog. I have a question regarding this narrative I have also seen repeated in the press. Below is one example:
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/08/2684419/shooting-mystery-miami-dade-teen.html Martin’s father said the teen went out in a light drizzle around 7 p.m. that Sunday during the NBA All-Star Game halftime to get snacks from a nearby 7-Eleven. He purchased Skittles candies and an Arizona iced tea for his 13-year-old stepbrother.
Police report indicates at 19:30 T is pronounced dead that is military time for 7:30 isn’t it?

The 2012 NBA All-Star Game was an exhibition basketball game which was played on February 26, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. EST

Maybe I’m missing something here regarding time zones and game time but the narrative that he went out during the half-time doesn’t seem to fit. Can you explain this?
Thank you for the kind words regarding the blog posting.
I mean, it is the NBA All-Star Game. So, nobody over the age of 30 really pays attention to when the game starts. Trayvon – using an app on his phone for example – could have gotten a better idea of the start time closer to tip-off. I doubt Tracy Martin knew when the game started — maybe 7:00 or 7:30 pm while he’d be out and about before dinner.
Here’s a conversation my dad and I would have had back in 1992 for example.
Me: “Hey, can I go and get something to eat/drink later for the All-Star Game? Magic is coming back and I’d like to see him play. It’s in Orlando* – remember how fun it was golfing at Disney Resorts?”
Dad: “When does it start?”
Me: “7 or 7:30 pm.”
Dad: “Ok, we’ll be heading to dinner so you’ll need to walk. Watch out for the weather. Are you going to be home tonight or with your cousin?”
Me: “I’m not sure – I may stay in after the game unless I can get a ride.”
* The 1992 All-Star game featuring Magic Johnson happened to be in Orlando. That worked out well for this work of fiction.

Agree, this is a reasonable explanation as to why his father’s perception may have been that he was heading to get some snacks for the game. Another blogger mentioned that neither the Father or Ms. Green were present at the home. I don’t know when his father left.
I simply wondered where the theme came that T would walk 4 miles (roughly 2 each way) for some skittles and tea in the in the rain for his 13 yr old step brother during half time of the nba all star game he would miss the show: http://youtu.be/KB9ABygizd4
When I read how far the 7-11 it seemed odd that he would have attempted this feat during a half time or at all. A brisk walk is 4.0 mph. It would seem unlikely he could return from a 4 mile hike during a halftime.
The idea a 17 yr old teen would do such a thing for his 13 yr old step brother’s craving for tea and skittles?….
Well, you could say It would nearly make him a “saint” worthy of liturgy.

Instead you seem to be indicating this was an assumption arrived at after the fact. Sort of like a hypothesis of what he “must” have done rather than a recitation of a factual sequence. The ofc report makes no mention of these items laying on the ground where the fight occurred. Maybe they were found in his pockets? Maybe they will be in another report yet to be released?
One would have to ask if the parents aren’t home and do not learn until the next morning of his death…. where this theme originated?

(according to this link the skittles theme came from the Martin family tort lawyer first to the media) Because you spent so much effort on your time-line, you may want to read the comments referring to another possible 7-11 in the area that can be located by map quest 0.7 miles from the Green residence. (I couldn’t find it)
Interesting with all the media attention no video has emerged of him at a convenience store. A receipt would give a time reference but I have not seen mention of a receipt.
http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2012/03/31/tea-and-skittles/ (conjecture tea and skittles refers to pot and otc meds) The toxicology report would be helpful as would the property receipt from the ME. (If he does have ice tea and skittles in his pockets it will be listed there)
What 7-11 did Trayvon go to? Not sure if it matters but I thought it was the close one here…

Guess what, even thuggish kids with multiple suspensions got to eat sometimes. George eats. Trayvon eats. It doesn’t mean anything if this attitude-problem kid started sucker punching someone for dissing him. How dare a non-black diss me!!!
I’m confused.
You put this picture and everyone makes a big deal out of this because it shows how innocent, young, and somewhat noble Trayvon was for getting his brother (sniff sniff) tea and skittles. A lot more sympathetic than his twitter profile No Limit Nigga. A lot more sympathetic than the multiply suspended loser kid who ran a fight club that he is.
I don’t care what Trayvon’s reported twitter name was. He was stalked, harassed, preyed upon, etc. and (likely) screaming for help for nearly a minute leading up to Zimmerman’s shot.
Excellent observation — thank you ( again)!
He wasn’t preyed upon. He thought Zimmerman shouldn’t diss him and he could start swinging on account of it. He forgot us white folks in Florida have guns and shit.
How wasn’t Trayvon Martin being harassed, preyed upon, and stalked by Zimmerman?
It’s legal to ask people questions and talk to them last time I checked. It’s not legal to flip out and startpunching people when they do so, though certain hotheaded black people seem to think they can respond this way to any white that dares not treat htem witht the highest respect.
As a citizen – so, not as a cop – you typically don’t chase somebody all over a neighborhood just to ask them a few questions unless you’re harassing, stalking, or preying upon them.
Zimmerman had plenty of time to ask Trayvon what he was up to without hunting him down. Specifically, WHILE HE WAS TALKING TO POLICE at the 1:30 mark of the 911 call as the teenager walked by his parked vehicle.
Um, “Mr. Roach” (nice user name–should I judge you for it?) is a racist Internet troll — not worth spending time with responses. Go back to your own racist blog with your “guns and shit”, dude.
🙂
